Why does the Government provide consolation payments to Umrah pilgrims who are affected by the postponement of Umrah? |
The order of the Umrah postponement was issued by the Government following the global spread of the Omicron virus. This postponement step was taken due to the Government’s concern in regards to the safety and health of Umrah pilgrims, especially Malaysians. This postponement may affect the prospective umrah pilgrims financially. The Government agrees to provide consolation payments to lighten the burden and losses of the pilgrims involved. |
2. | What are the criteria for the Umrah pilgrims who receive the consolation payment? |
The main criteria of the pilgrims who receive the consolation payments are those who are affected by the postponement of allumrah activities between the period of January 8, 2022 until February 7, 2022. |

Why was Tabung Haji (TH) chosen as the institution that manages the consolation payments? |
TH was chosen as the institution that manages the consolation payment as 100% of the recipients are Malaysians who are Muslims and the Government is confident that most of the recipients already have savings accounts in TH. Payment via one single institution (i.e through TH) will allow effective facilitation of the payment processes to the recipients involved. |

Why does the Government doesn’t continue to credit consolation payments through the travel agencies that manage the Umrah pilgrimage? |
Payments are made directly to the involved umrah pilgrims to ensure that they receive payments swiftly, orderly and securely. |
5. | What is the total consolation payment? Will Umrah pilgrims receive full compensation? | This is based on the scenario where the Government pays a consolation of 50% on the burnt expenses incurred by each of the Umrah pilgrims. |

7. | How does TH make the payment? | Payments to the recipients involved will be credited directly into their respective TH savings accounts after TH receives the list of eligible recipients from the Government/MOTAC. |
8. | What if the Umrah pilgrims do not have a TH account | TH will assist the recipients involved to open a TH savings account to enable the consolation payment to be credited to their TH accounts. |
9. | When will the consolation payment crediting date be done? | Consolation crediting will begin on February 18, 2022. |
10. | How to check the crediting status of consolation money to the recipient's TH account? |

All affected Umrah pilgrims can check the status through TH website (www.th.gov.my) or by contacting the TH Contact Center (THCC) at +603-6207 1919. THCC will provide feedbacks based on the list of eligible recipients as provided by MOTAC. |
12. | How can an Umrah pilgrim who is affected but not listed as a consolation recipient make an appeal? | Pilgrims can appeal through their respective registered tour operators/companies. Subsequently,, the company will communicate with the Association of Travel and Tourism Agencies. |
