Closing an Account
A TH account can be closed at any time by the TH depositor, legal guardian (as per TH system records), Nominees, Trustees, or by order of the Authorities.
There are five (5) scenarios where the closure of a TH savings account may occur:
- Instruction from the depositor/legal guardian (as per TH system records).
- Demise of Depositors
- Comatose / Incompetent / Incapacitated / Senile / Mentally Unstable (OKU) Depositors
- Authority directive (Court/Insolvency Department/Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM)/Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC)).
- Dormant account.
NOTE: Please be informed that TH account closure CANNOT be performed at TH Strategic Partner offices.
Instruction from Depositor/Legal Guardian
Accounts that can be closed:
- Adult Account
- Junior Account
Documents required :
- Identification documents: MyKad, MyKid, MyTentera, Birth Certificate, Adoption Certificate, and International Passport (official documents verifying a person's personal details).
TH account closure process at a TH counter:
- The depositor/legal guardian (as per TH system records) must be present at a TH counter.
- Present the complete set of required documents.
- The account closure payment methods are as follows:
- By cash, for amounts not exceeding RM10,000.00.
- Transfer from TH Account to another TH Account.
- Telegraphic Transfer.
- Donation to the Malaysian Hajj Pilgrims Welfare Fund (TKJHM).
- Complete Form JP011: Account Closure Application Form.

Estate Claims
The deceased depositor's account can be closed by:
- The nominee.
- The trustee.
- Heirs according to Sharia law/ Other parties with an official Letter of Administration/ Order (from the Sharia Court/ Civil Court/ District Land Office (Small Estate)/ Probate Office/ Amanah Raya Berhad).
TH account closure process for the deceased:
- The nominee, trustee, or heirs must be present at a TH counter.
- Present the complete set of required documents.
- Complete the following forms:
- JP005: Estate Withdrawal Application Form;
- JP006: Heirs’ Declaration for Estate Withdrawal Form.
4. Estate payment methods:
- Credited to the applicant's TH account.
- Via cheque (limited to institutions/ companies/ non-Malaysian citizens/ bankrupt individuals).
- Donation to the Malaysian Hajj Pilgrims Welfare Fund (TKJHM).
Documents required:
- Applicant/ Heir/ Administrator's identification documents/Letter of application (if an institution/company) that completes Forms JP005/JP006.
- Deceased Depositor’s demise Certificate/ Overseas demise Report (issued by JPN).
- Letter of Administration/ Order (if the depositor did not name a nominee).
- Identification documents of the legal guardian (if the nominee/trustee/heir is under 18 years old).
- Birth Certificate (if the nominee/trustee/heir is under 18 years old).
- demise Certificate/Overseas demise Report for a deceased nominee/ trustee/ heir.
- Marriage Certificate of the deceased’s spouse (required if the account balance is RM1,000.00 and below and there is no nominee/ trustee/ Letter of Administration/ Order).
- Heir’s Birth Certificate to prove entitlement as per Sharia law (required if the account balance is RM1,000.00 and below and there is no nominee/ trustee/ Letter of Administration/ Order).
- Letter of Administration/ Order (Civil Court/ Sharia Court/ Land Office/ District (Small Estate)/ Probate Office) if the Nominee/ Heir is in a Coma/ mentally incompetent/ incapacitated/ senile/ disabled (mentally unfit)).
- Statutory Declaration (Statutory Declarations Act 1960).
- Other supporting documents (as required by TH).
Hibah Amanah Claim
The closure of Hibah Amanah Giver's account (deceased) can be done by:

The Trust Gift Recipient/ *Named Legal Guardian as per the Hibah Amanah TH document.
Hibah Amanah Claim Process:
- The Hibah Amanah Recipient/ *Named Legal Guardian must be present at any TH counter.
- Present the complete set of required documents.
- Complete Form:
- JP035: Hibah Amanah Withdrawal Claim Form / *Nomination.
- Payment Methods:
- Credit to the Hibah Amanah Recipient's/ Legal Guardian’s TH account.
- Via cheque (limited to institutions/ companies/ non-Malaysian citizens/ bankrupt individuals).
- Telegraphic Transfer.
- Donation to the Malaysian Hajj Pilgrims Welfare Fund (TKJHM).
Documents required:
- Hibah Amanah Giver's demise Certificate/ Overseas demise Report (issued by JPN).
- Identification documents of the Hibah Amanah Recipient/ Legal Guardian/ Nominee.
Depositor in a Coma/ Mentally Incompetent/ Incapacitated/ Senile/ Disabled (Mentally Unfit)
The closure of a TH savings account in cases where the depositor is in a coma/ mentally incompetent/ incapacitated/ senile/ disabled (mentally unfit) can be done by an heir
Documents required:
- An official and complete application letter from the heir.
- Copies of the depositor's and the applicant's identification documents (must be certified by a TH officer).
- Doctor’s certificate:
- From a Government Hospital/ Private Hospital; or
- Government Clinic/ Private Clinic.
- A stamped Indemnity Guarantee Form (JP025) by the applying heir.
- Applicant’s fingerprint on the identification document copy.
- Written consent from all heirs and the Nominee (copies of identification documents must be attached).
- If the applicant is the sole heir, obtain confirmation from one of the following:
- Penghulu (Village Head).
- Community Leader (Sabah/Sarawak).
- Commissioner for Oaths.
- Home/ hospital visit to the depositor by 2 authorised TH officers.
- Take a photo of the depositor’s current condition with the permission of the heir/ hospital.
- If the heir/ hospital does not permit photographs, make a confirmation in the visit report.
- Prepare a visit confirmation report, signed by both visiting TH officers.
- Submit the application to the Headquarters for approval.
Notes:
For this category:
- Payment is only made through a TH Account Transfer.
- No fingerprint of the depositor is not required.
- Form JP does not need to be filled
- Heirs refer to those under Sharia law, comprising individuals 18 years old and above.
- The official application letter from the applying heir must include the following details:
- Applicant's Name and Address.
- Date.
- Depositor’s name.
- Depositor’s and applicant’s identification document number.
- Depositor’s and applicant’s TH account number.
- Withdrawal amount or account closure.
- Reason for withdrawal.
- Applicant’s signature.
- Phone number
Authority Directive
Authorities (Court/ Insolvency Department/ Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM)/ Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC)) may direct TH to close certain depositor accounts by issuing/submitting a Court Order.
Dormant Account
A Depositor’s account with no transactions for over 7 years will be classified as a Dormant Account, in accordance with the Tabung Haji Regulations and Act (1995).
Dormant Accounts will not receive annual Hibah distributions starting from 2018.
Tabung Haji is exempted from handing over Dormant Account funds to the Registrar of Unclaimed Moneys. Therefore, depositors or heirs can still claim the remaining balance in a dormant account at any time by providing the required documents as specified by TH.
Account Closure Locations
TH account closure can be done at any TH counter:
- State Office.
- Branch Office.
- UTC.
- Islamic Financial Services Centre (IFiC).
- Service Centre (no cash payments invloved).
- TH Community (cash payments not exceeding RM2,000).
